During the past 6 years of intense collaboration, Sophia and Daniel have developed a profound friendship and musical symbiosis resulting in unique and impactful programs and recitals.
Daniel brings his expertise as a poet and fluent speaker of 6 languages. He brings lush
musicality and intensity through the piano directly inspired by each poem. Sophia brings
her expertise in contemporary music and compositional intention. Her versatility brings
clarity to complex rhythms and sounds, acting as a channel from composer to audience.
Programming each recital is done with great care, ensuring that the experience brings a
certain theme or idea into a new light. A wide variety of compositional styles are woven
together, grouped into sets that offer a new narrative. The experience is elevated by
incorporating elements such as improvisations on relevant poems, recitations of texts,
or speaking directly to the audience. We have also collaborated directly with composers
to create new pieces for our duo, often incorporating original texts written by Daniel. We
aim to shake the current notion of a recital and bring something fresh and intriguing to
share with our audience.
